Music and Things and Stuff and Such As

What the hell, might as well post something since it's been over 4 years, eh?

I'm still around. Occasionally lurking/commenting over at LGM and checking in on what's left of the ol' blogroll every now and then. The bloggerverse isn't what it used to be, but it's still not dead. Figured I'd keep this place from dying entirely too. Maybe I'll keep posting, maybe not, who the fuck knows? It was sad to watch the slow demise of Sadly, No! but hey, what can you do? Many of the old regulars there show up now and then at LGM and other places, so it's nice to see those nyms when they show up.

Anyway, I've been to a few good shows this year, so that was neat. Got to see two nights of Phish in Seattle last April. Those shows aren't availble on the ute oobs but a bit of the next one down in Berkely is. Here you go:

Saw Goose in Eugene for the first time a couple weeks after the Phish shows. They were decent. It was at a relatively small venue (The McDonald Theater, an old art deco theater from the 1920s, owned by Ken Kesey's family) so that was a plus. Here's one of the songs from that show:

Tool played in Eugene in October and a buddy had an extra ticket so got to see them too. It was nice to finally see Tool. I'd never seen them but had seen A Perfect Circle in Eugene a few years ago. Very different crowds than those at the jam band shows like Phish and Goose. No Nitrous Mafia selling balloons outside after the Tool show, and no discarded balloons littering the sidewalks for blocks because the fucking wooks can't be bothered to find a trash can. People suck, a continuing series. Can't say I was sad to see the lack of idiots blacking out on the sidewalk after huffing a bunch of nitrous balloons. That scene can die a quick death as far as I'm concerned.

Other than that, still just a working stiff. Maybe I'll retire some year soon, that would be nice. We'll see. Did a bunch of camping this year, got a new camper van and have been enjoying how nice that is to travel and camp in. Riding my mountain bike a bunch. Had a minor health scare a couple years ago (well managed now, no big deal now) like so many others of this aging blogosphere. Nothing like the occaisional health scare to remind you that you shouldn't miss out on all the fun shit there is to do in this stupid country, even as the idiots in the GOP are doing their damndest to take it all away from us.

Ah, yes. Politics. In 2023, in are we really this fucking close to becoming fascist, America? Yeah, there's that too. Trying to still stay involved but also trying not to obsess too much about shit I can't control, or how shitty people are, or how horrible war is or... or... or... Yeah, you get it the idea.

Well, on that cheery note, if anybody is still around and reads this, I hope you're doing as well as you can. If you happen to want to leave a comment and let me know you're still around, please do.

Until next time, if there is one.

Here Be Dragons

I'm gonna check out for a while. I've recently discovered it's way more healthy both mentally and physically for me to wonder around outside and catch imaginary monsters with my phone, instead of obsessing about the real-life monsters involved in this stupid fucking election. I'll be back... oh I'd guess about Wednesday, November 9th. Yeah, that sounds like a good, completely random day.

Friday Funnies

Ok, this actually is from Tuesday, but I just got around to reading it. From Harper's Weekly Review:

President Barack Obama gave a speech in which he said that he saw “Americans of every party” pledge allegiance “under the same proud flag,” and a protestor outside the convention attempted to stomp on a burning American flag and lit herself on fire. Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump announced that he wouldn’t endorse Republican Speaker of the House Paul Ryan for reelection, kicked a crying baby out of a rally in Virginia, asked Russia to steal U.S. State Department emails, reportedly asked three times during a national-security briefing why the United States shouldn’t use nuclear weapons, and said he wanted to hit a “little guy” so hard “his head would spin.” Researchers in the United Kingdom discovered an orangutan that mimics human conversations.

The emphasis is mine — usually they end with a clever non sequitur. I wonder why they didn't this time...?

America! The Beer!

I'm sure you've all heard the exciting news that InBev is renaming Budweiser to America!. What some of you may not have heard is that they've got an innovative new can coming too. For the first time ever, a manufacturer has been able to boldly leverage the synergies of cheap, flexible LCD screens, thin, disposable/recyclable batteries, and an innovative new bonding agent, to come up with the first animated GIF beer can!

Oregon Beer Snob Industries, LLC®™©☺ is proud to announce a sneak preview of the first can that will be released:

Other designs may be forthcoming, but it'll be hard to top this classic embodiment of the 'Murican spirit. Drink up, assholes!

A Shorter

Normally, a "Shorter" from me would be addressed at some right wing hack and nobody should get out of the boat to read the original. But today, since this person doesn't allow comments I have one from the good side, and you are encouraged to get out of the boat:

Shorter, The Rude Pundit:

"Hey, Marco! It is the Ides Of March..."

Do it Li'l Marco, you know you want to.

Shorter Republican Establishment

It's absolutely inconceivable that a Republican candidate's not-so-subtle racism would lead to big wins in the Southern primaries!

No, I've never heard of Lee Atwater, why do you ask?

Of especially delightful idiocy, we have Peggy Fucking Noonan of all people flipping out over the GOP's "new" racism and calling it a "Civil War." Which leads me to this bonus alternate shorter for Pegs:

Yes, I know Philadelphia, Mississippi is a nice place to visit this time of year. What exactly are you getting at?

The 2016 Presidential Race...

...as represented by old Pink Floyd songs.

Lots of this:

An amazing amount of this:

And a place to retire to when it's all over:

This country is so fucked.

I Saw A Debate T'other Night, Oh Boy*

As a service, I provide a concise summary:

* No, I actually didn't.

Also, too: Go see Deadpool. It's juvenile and raunchy and everything a traditional superhero movie isn't.

NH By The Important Numbers

At least we know the dems have a solid, rational alternative if something happens to the front runners. Not that O'Malley dude though, he's fuckin' bonkers.

Relevant comic is relevant

Chill the fuck out Hillarybots and Berniebros, m'kay? There's an ongoing trainwreck called "The GOP" that's way more fun to watch, so let that entertain you instead.

Please?

Unfortunate typo

It's really too bad the typo made it to the cover. Maybe they couldn't figure out how to typeset an umlaut?

An idea that's so stupid it just might work

Idea:

  1. Trick the pants-pissing right wingers into passing some actual gun control law that applies only to Syrian muslims.
  2. Obviously unconstitutional law will get challenged all the way to the supreme court.
  3. Only the part about the Syrian Muslims gets stricken.
  4. SPARKLEPONIES FOR EVERYONE!

I know, I know. But hey, a guy can dream.

PYRAMID POWER!

Regarding this, from Tengrain, I did some searching and unearthed a rare photo of Ben meditating:

Arrooo! Breaking! Arrooo!

Donald Trump now guaranteed Republican nomination:

Bill "Always Wrong" Kristol seals our fate

In the video (no, I'm not gonna link it, it's at MSNBC) his statement elicited hearty laughter from the hosts. They know what's up. What nobody knows is why anybody still talks to ol' Always Wrong Willie.

So tempting

Wait, no, not "tempting" that other thing that's the opposite of that.

I mean it's true that they give you a "side of the news that you just can't find anywhere else" -- the greasy, racist, Cheeto®-stained, basement-dwelling side is just so, so unrepresented in print these days. Oooh, ooh, they have "unsurpassed book and movie reviews" too! I do so wish I could stay up-to-date with the latest in shitty right-wing "entertainment" gossip.

Alas, I think I'll have to pass.
